U.S. Minimum Wage Law: An Overview

Minimum wages are governed by a set of laws that varies from country to country. Basically, minimum wage laws are set by governments to create wage standards and ensure fairness in the employment world.

According to Wikipedia, statutory minimum wages were first introduced in the United States at the national level in 1938. At present, the minimum wage in the country is determined by the Federal Government through the Department of Labor. However, each states are allowed to assign their own minimum wages based on their own policies and findings.

The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, which was signed into law on May 25, 2007, is presently the federal minimum wage law being implemented in the United States.
