U.S. Minimum Wage Law: An Overview

Minimum wages are governed by a set of laws that varies from country to country. Basically, minimum wage laws are set by governments to create wage standards and ensure fairness in the employment world.

According to Wikipedia, statutory minimum wages were first introduced in the United States at the national level in 1938. At present, the minimum wage in the country is determined by the Federal Government through the Department of Labor. However, each states are allowed to assign their own minimum wages based on their own policies and findings.

The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, which was signed into law on May 25, 2007, is presently the federal minimum wage law being implemented in the United States.

Is your Resume Error-free?

No matter what other people may have said, resume is still your best weapon to get an interview. This is the reason why you should take your resume writing seriously. You don’t need to hear from a career expert to believe that a single typo can ruin your resume. And guess what, there are other things in your resume that are worth a proofread.

When double-checking your resume for errors, I suggest you look first at the spacing between words because this is one of the most common resume errors. Check also for inconsistent abbreviations, poor layout and unevenly-sized fonts.

Actually, the key here is consistency. It doesn’t matter if you use one or two spaces after each period, as long as you do it consistently it can pass the screening.

Just like what I said in my previous post, making your online reputation spotless can be beneficial to you. In fact, it can even earn you a job interview and eventually, a job.

Here are some tips to make your online reputation clean:

1. Always seek privacy.
Whether you are signing up in a social network or joining in an online forum, make sure you know the site’s privacy guidelines.
2. Upload decent photos. You know scandalous photos can get you into trouble, so save yourself from headache and keep your online photos professional-looking.
3. Create a website portfolio. If you have one, then surely it will appear on the first ten searches about you. With a presentable website portfolio, you can change any bad impression created of you based on the previous searches the company may have found.
